First-class facilities
You'll have access to a range of networked computer studios which run the latest software for animation, games and computer graphics. Dedicated facilities are provided for animation, multimedia, games, networks, digital post-production and digital music studies. Software ranges from general-purpose packages, such as Autodesk 3dsmax, Maya or Softimage XSI, visual programming languages, IT applications and a range of internet software, to specialist packages. The Centre for Creative Technologies, housed in the Athena Building, includes new life drawing studios, music studios, animation and post-production studies, a motion capture studio and the Institute for Digital Innovation, in the Phoenix Building, has a new sound stage facility, including an amazing sound studio and HD green screen and motion control system.
Research and enterprise
The School of Computing hosts Animex, a major annual international animation and computer games festival. Animex is one of the largest animation festivals in the UK and is run by School staff with support from many regional organisations and student volunteers.
