Designed in partnership with employers, the course gives you a solid theoretical and practical understanding of travel and tourism management, enabling you to progress to higher-level studies or directly into industry. You have the chance to apply what you learn to your own workplace experience.

How you learn

Teaching takes place in the partner college and, in some instances, at Teesside University, using a combination of lectures and seminars to provide you with underpinning knowledge. You are then expected to expand your knowledge and skills further through independent, directed learning. On some occasions learning takes place in a placement/work-based setting.

How you are assessed

The knowledge and skills developed through the course are assessed in a variety of ways, using both in-course and end assessments. Methods include reports, essays, projects, case studies, examination, individual or group presentation, group activity and a personal development portfolio.

Career opportunities

The travel and tourism industry is a vast, dynamic industry offering a wide range of career opportunities. Typical areas of the industry which you could progress into include tour operations (UK and overseas), conference and events management, travel agency operations, aviation sector (airlines and airports), public sector tourism in the UK (tourist boards, regional development agencies and tourist information centres), attractions management (UK and overseas), transport provision, hospitality sector management and tourist guiding services. You may also wish to further your studies and progress to the BA (Hons) Tourism Management Top-up Award.

Entry requirements

The entry criteria are based on your ability to succeed and can be demonstrated in a variety of ways including:

  • a range of Level 3 qualifications (NVQ 3, BTEC Award, A level)
  • appropriate training through work.
  • maths and English at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent qualification)
