About the conference

Andy Lomas

We are delighted to announce our keynote speaker for this year's Animex Research and Innovation Conference is Andy Lomas, who is discussing topics around working with unruly agents.

Andy Lomas is a computational artist, mathematician and Emmy award-winning supervisor of computer-generated effects. Productions he has worked on include Walking with Dinosaurs, Matrix: Revolutions, Matrix: Reloaded, Over the Hedge, The Tale of Despereaux, and Avatar. He received Emmys for his work on The Odyssey (1997) and Alice in Wonderland (1999).

His artwork explores how complex sculptural forms can be created emergently by stimulating growth processes. He exhibited work internationally in numerous exhibitions, including the Pompidou Centre, Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), the Royal Society, SIGGRAPH, Ars Electronica, the Science Museum and the ZKM.

Andy is currently based in London, developing his art practice and working as a Visiting Research Fellow at Goldsmiths. He is also a Teesside University alumni who studied MSc Computer Aided Graphical Technology Applications (CAGTA) back in the distant mists of time.
