• The post holder will carry out DNA-17 profiling of subject samples (PACE/Volunteer) covering any of the stages from sample receipt to genotyping of analytical results within an automated high throughput laboratory.
• The results will be loaded onto the National DNA Database®
• In exceptional circumstances it may be necessary to give evidence in court.

Key result areas:
• Sample accessioning
• Lysis and PCR setup of DNA
• Capillary electrophoresis of amplified DNA Analysis
• Adherence to Good Laboratory practice and quality systems
• Work in an effective manner to achieve tight turn around times

Candidate specification:
• Sound knowledge and experience of PCR technology. Strong understanding of molecular biology. Accurate record keeping. Very good attention to detail and ability to maintain concentration in a high throughput environment. Good team working skills essential. Confident communicator and team player. Good organisation, planning skills, ability to multitask and demonstrate initiative.

• Throughout you year you will achieve a wide range of laboratory skills, the opportunity to learn the analysis of DNA profiles, as well as the opportunity to work with cutting edge Automated systems. Individuals have the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities in the assistance of the day to day running of the laboratory. In addition individuals will gain many transferable skills that will assist with applying for jobs in the future.
