This is an exciting opportunity to work with an ambitious team on the latest agritech science and technology. Working with both B-Hive and Branston colleagues, you will join a small team responsible for investigating the use of volatile headspace profiling of potatoes for early detection of internal defects and to improve crop utilisation and reduce food waste. The project is fully supported by an academic team from the University of the West of England to transfer skills and knowledge into the business.

This position forms part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) funded by Innovate UK. It’s essential you understand how KTP works with business and the University, and the vital role you will play if you successfully secure a KTP Associate position.

Essential skills required:
• Knowledge of applied biological/analytical sciences in areas including (but not exclusive to) agri-food; bio-sensing; plant biology; diagnostics.
• Experience of independent experimental research (e.g. postgraduate or industrial projects).
• Ability to organise self and others to maximise effectiveness, in an academic and industrial context.
• Able to employ/develop advanced analytical methods within a translational framework.
• Good IT skills.
• Capable of participative, team based working and management style.

Desirable skills required:
• Experience of working with or within an industrial research environment.
• Experience of an interdisciplinary approach to investigative research.
• Knowledge & experience of analytical instrumentation related to ‘gas sensing’ (e.g. GC-MS).
• Experience of working within the agri-food sector.

Degree subjects required: Essential - Postgraduate qualification (e.g. MSc) in Biological Sciences, Analytical Sciences or similar scientific discipline. Desirable - PhD in a relevant area.
Location: Branston, Lincolnshire
Type: Contract   24 month fixed term. On completion of the KTP project, it is B-Hive’s intention to offer on-going employment to the right candidate.
Basis: Full Time
Start Date: November 2018
Salary Details: £28k-£30k pa plus a generous training budget
