Feedback

Help us help you

It's important we continuously improve our service so your feedback is very important to us.

Your overall impression of the careers service in April was:

  • very good - 79%
  • good - 20%
  • satisfactory - 1%
  • poor - 0%

Over the last 12 months you have rated our careers service:

You said - we did

  • there is some confusion about the difference between our general CV session and the one for non-UK students – we are reviewing our marketing material relating to these sessions to clarify this issue.
  • you suggested that our Applying for a PhD presentation would be improved by bringing in a current PhD student to answer questions – we will investigate whether this is possible for next year's presentation.

More you said - we did comments

  • appointments can be hard to book sometimes – we have experienced a higher than usual demand for appointments this year and are currently investigating different ways of offering guidance to students. Remember that there is always two hours (and sometimes four) of drop in during term time so you can get to see an adviser quickly. Part of this problem is caused by students forgetting to attend and rebooking so we hope to be able to send text reminders in the near future.
  • you could have been better prepared for a careers appointment – we have leaflets describing how you can prepare and there is information about this on our website. We will make sure that our staff inform you of this at the time of booking.
  • in the 'Teaching in Further Education' session the steps to qualification could be made clearer - we agree and will be including a graphic to illustrate this in future presentations.
  • you would like some practical involvement in our 'PGCE interview' presentation - we will be re-writing the session to include opportunities for you to practice interview skills.
  • you asked if it is possible to record a careers interview to refer to later - yes, that's no problem, just let the careers adviser know that you are doing this.
  • CV sessions should be specific to each school - we encourage you to ask your tutor to contact the Careers Service to arrange a session that is specific to your subject.
  • you would like information about preparing a CV for part time work - we have developed a booklet, which is available on our Blackboard site or from the Careers Service.
  • our ‘Applying for a PGCE’ presentation should contain more about how to write a good personal statement - we are discussing putting on a separate workshop specifically about the personal statement section of the form.
  • students coming late to sessions should be refused entry to avoid disrupting the class - we will seek views from Careers staff and students about taking this step.
  • you would like information on selling yourself to employers – we will develop a handout on this for our 10 Top Tips series and add a presentation on the subject to our central programme.
  • our Graduate Job search presentation focuses too much on websites – we will be re-developing this so that it focuses more on job search strategies.
  • students attending the graduate job search presentation should be provided with lists of recruitment agencies and jobs - this information and much more is on our website.
  • powerpoint slides from careers sessions should be made available - we now add them to E-learning@Tees
  • tailor sessions to subject areas - although our sessions are applicable to all courses, ask your lecturers to talk to us about tailored careers input for your course.
  • more careers advisers available at drop-in session peak times - we feel we can meet demand at present but we will continuously review this
  • it would be better to have different application form sessions for home and international students - this will be included in our next round of presentations
  • our Thinking about Teaching presentation should include a graphic to illustrate the different routes - done.
