Assessment Regulations

The University Academic Board approves the Assessment Regulations for Taught and Research awards. The Assessment Regulations undergo a regular editorial process to ensure they are consistent and accurate. Specific details of the most recent amendments to the assessment regulations can be obtained from the Academic Registry on request, via APR@tees.ac.uk.

From time to time, the University undertakes a full review of its regulations to reflect changing institutional and national agendas, and as such, the University has recently completed a programme of review of all its assessment regulations.

Undergraduate Awards

The latest versions of the regulations for Foundation Degrees, Undergraduate Degrees and Integrated Masters Degrees, which will be effective from 23 September 2019 for awards and modules, are detailed below:


Taught Postgraduate Awards at Level 7

In the 2017-18 academic year, new assessment regulations were introduced for all new students commencing on Taught Masters Awards, including Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma Awards.

Following further consideration, a revised version of the Assessment Regulations for Taught Masters Awards has been approved and will be effective from 23 September 2019 for new students enrolling on Taught Masters Awards and modules. These are detailed below:


Students who enrolled on Taught Masters Awards prior to 2019-20 will continue to be considered under the "old" Assessment Regulations for Taught Masters Awards detailed below:


Professional Doctorate Awards

In the 2017-18 academic year, new assessment regulations were introduced for all new students commencing on Professional Doctorate Awards. The latest version of the regulations for Professional Doctorate Awards, which will be effective from 23 September 2019 for awards and modules, is detailed below:

Some students who enrolled prior to 2017-18 (mainly Professional Doctorate Students who elected not to transfer to the new Assessment Regulations for their Advanced Independent Work) will continue to be considered under the "old" assessment regulations detailed below. The relevant Course Leader will be able to provide further information:

Higher National Awards

At the commencement of the 2018-19 academic year, new assessment regulations were introduced for all new students commencing on Higher National Awards and modules (Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma). The latest version of the regulations for Higher National Awards, which will be effective from 23 September 2019 for awards and modules, is detailed below:

Students who enrolled on standard Higher National Awards prior to the 2018-19 academic year will be subject to the "old" Assessment Regulations for Higher National Awards, which is detailed below:

Students who are enrolled on Higher National Awards by online learning (TUOLE courses) have transitioned onto the new Higher National Award regulations. Further details can be obtained from the relevant Course Leader.


Variance to Assessment Regulations

Some courses and/or modules have approved Variance from specific aspects of the assessment regulations, normally due to Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body (PSRB) requirements.

If you are an enrolled student and are unsure as to which set of regulations apply to you, or whether your course/module has any Variance, please contact the relevant Course Leader for further information.
