National Horizons Centre

Total investment: £22.3m

Opened March 2019

The National Horizons Centre is a new £22.3m biological research, teaching and training facility, due to open in March 2019, which aims to address the growth needs of the emerging bio-based industries set to transform the UK economy, including biologics, industrial biotechnology and bio-pharmaceuticals.

The Centre will be located at Darlington's Central Park alongside the new National Biologics Manufacturing Centre and Teesside University's Centre for Professional and Executive Development.

Complementing our existing facilities, the Centre will provide our students with access to a wider range of laboratories and the latest industry-standard equipment.

The project is receiving up to £3,174,735 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Department for Communities and Local Government (and in London the intermediate body Greater London Authority) is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund. Established by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
