Salvation Army

Students and staff from the local universities joined forces to gather donations of toiletries for distribution to the needy. Volunteer co-ordinators from Teesside, Durham, Sunderland, Northumbria and Newcastle universities each put a call out to students and staff across their respective universities seeking donations of toiletries which could be passed on to local charities for distribution to the homeless. This regional fundraising activity coincided with National Student Volunteering Week, with donations gathered at each university and delivered to local charities where they were prepare for distribution to those most in need. Salvation Army Centres, where they were prepared for distribution to those most in need. Organisations benefitting from donations are A Way Out in Stockton and local Salvation Army Centres across the region. Donation points were set up across each universities, with donations sought in the form of toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, hair brushes and combs, hand towels, bath towels, skin creams, gloves, scarves, hats, socks and blankets.
