This course is suitable for people who have gained considerable learning through their work experiences in a senior accounting and finance role but have no academic qualification which recognises this. Through our Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) processes, you have the opportunity to gain significant credits towards your final award for your previous certificated postgraduate level learning and your previous experiential learning, providing you with a ‘fast track’ route to a masters degree.
If you are currently employed in a senior accounting and finance role and are looking for a masters degree course that will take into account your previous learning, and which allows you to gain credit for your future learning through work, then this course is suitable for you.
This course is one of the pathways offered as part of the Work Based Studies programme.
What you study
The course consists of core modules, taught option modules and supervised independent study option modules. Although core modules are compulsory, you can choose to study any combination of taught option modules and supervised independent study modules to make up your final award, which provides you with the opportunity to tailor the course to meet your own professional development needs.
How you learn
For taught modules lessons will include interactive structured seminar and tutorial activities which will be used to stimulate classroom discussion and debate plus practical workshop sessions. The course will encourage you to reflect on your work based practices to enable you to find new and innovative approaches to work based problems that will benefit your own professional development. For independent study modules no formal attendance at the University is required – you will be allocated a supervisor to support you through your study.
Where you study
Taught modules will be delivered at our Middlesbrough based campus.
How you are assessed
All assessments are work-based, allowing practical application of theory to your role. Assessments will provide opportunities for you to enhance your professional practice and to introduce strategic organisational improvements.
Career opportunities
This course will provide you with a range of career development opportunities relating to senior accounting and finance roles within a range of organisational settings
