Reading Development in Early Childhood

You consider the foundations necessary to develop children’s reading ability in early childhood, drawing on global and historical trends, UK policy and practice, and developmental phases of reading acquisition. You learn strategies for helping children with reading difficulties, reluctant readers, and reading in the digital age. You learn about the history of teaching reading and pre-literacy skills including phonological awareness,motor skills, and reading difficulties.

How you are assessed

You will produce a piece of writing which will focus upon how we can ensure children are able to develop into capable, critical and enthusiastic readers. You will be given tutorial support to assist with this.
