Interested in making a difference in a child’s early years? Enrol on an Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) pathway at Teesside University. With Manchester Metropolitan University, Teesside University provides the pathways to EYPS as outlined below. EYPS is a status, equivalent to qualified teacher status (QTS), which recognises practice expertise and professional leadership ability.
What you study
This is not a traditional programme of study, you can follow one of three routes:
Graduate practitioner pathway
Six months part-time
Enrolment: September and January
This pathway is appropriate if you have considerable knowledge, experience and skills relating to working with babies, toddlers and young children. You will attend preparation days for the formative and summative assessment.
Undergraduate practitioner pathway
12 months part-time
Enrolment: September and January
This pathway is appropriate if you have qualifications and experience that are broadly relevant to EYPS and require a relatively large amount of further training and/or experience. You will study for BA (Hons) Children and Early Childhood (Top-up) alongside developing individual learning plans to help you to work towards meeting the 39 EYPS standards.
Undergraduate entry pathway
12 months
Enrolment: September and January
This pathway is appropriate if you are an undergraduate completing a degree in Early Childhood Studies. To develop your skills in the sector you will undertake a minimum of two work-based training placements (TBC) in different settings before assessment for EYPS (and their pathway) is complete.
Where you study
If you undertake the Graduate Practitioner Pathway or Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway you will study at Teesside University Darlington campus.
If you undertake the Undergraduate Entry Pathway you will study at Teesside University Main Campus.
How you learn and are assessed
As an Undergraduate Practitioner Pathway candidate you attend lectures and seminars for three Level 6 modules to gain the BA Children and Early Childhood (Top-up Award). You have the option to self-fund study of an additional 60 credits to achieve a full honors degree. The 39 EYPS standards are integrated into your academic work and additional tutorials are provided to aid you in developing a working understanding of these standards.
Following this you receive preparation for the formative assessment (TBC) and a summative assessment which is a setting visit.
The setting visit is assessed by an EYPS assessor and requires you to exemplify your ability to meet the 39 EYPS standards. This includes interviews, portfolios and a tour around the setting (TBC)
