This programme is designed for teachers, lecturers or other graduates working in a variety of educational settings. You need experience of working with learners either in teaching, the education advisory service, educational administration or an allied field (including informal learning settings). The course caters for the interests and experience of different sectors as well as cross-sector issues.

You deepen your professional understanding and learn new theories, ideas and practices, which you can apply to your own setting. You develop both critical and reflective skills, and learn to evaluate, as well as carry out, relevant research. The core modules lay the foundations for the research dissertation which gives you the opportunity to explore an area or issue that impacts on your professional practice.

The following named routes are available for practitioners working in appropriate areas: MA Education (Educational Leadership), MA Education (Early Childhood Studies) and MA Education (Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector). What you study

This MA has a full-time and a part-time route. Both routes have taught sessions which are scheduled to enable working professionals to attend.

You study 180 level 7 credits made up of four modules plus a final dissertation. The core modules enable you to update your knowledge and skills and give you the opportunity to reflect on your professional practice whilst developing your understanding of theoretical models and current debates. There is a strong emphasis on the application of your studies to your professional context.

How you learn

Learning is supported by lectures, seminars, workshops, individual tutorials, group work and use of the University's online environment, Blackboard. The dissertation has four workshop sessions that complement the support provided through individual supervision.

How you are assessed

Assessment is via a variety of written formats, such as a portfolio, conventional reports and essays, a research proposal and a dissertation. Some modules have oral presentations either as assessed or as formative work.

Accreditation of Prior Learning

Accreditation of Prior Learning and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning may be available to prospective students with appropriate previous master's-level study or professional experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants should:

• normally have a 2.2 honours degree
• have appropriate professional status, for example Qualified Teaching Status
• have significant experience as a practitioner in educational settings.
