The course provides the opportunity for the continuing professional development of qualified teachers working in the field of adult numeracy. It is designed for trainees who already hold a teaching qualification and would like to specialise further.

How you learn

Teaching and learning includes lectures, workshops and seminars. Assessment includes an individual learning portfolio, essays, a case study, reports, attendance at a one day subject specific fair and observations of at least 50 hours of numeracy teaching.

Career opportunities

This course is a continuing professional development award for adult numeracy teachers working in education and training. Completion of this award can contribute to you obtaining Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have:

  • a Certificate in Education or a Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (or equivalent)
  • evidence of personal maths skills at level 3 prior to course entry
  • a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for regulated activity
  • a teaching practice placement of at least 50 hours in an appropriate context.
