This top-up programme is for international students that already have a professional diploma and relevant work experience in health or care. It is designed to develop your graduate study skills, professional understanding, encourage an evidence based approach to your professional work and develop your leadership abilities.
The course promotes a critical understanding of political economy of health at local, national and global level and facilitates the role of practitioners who can contribute to the development of healthcare services.
What you study
You start with induction activities, study skills and IT development activities and go on to gain a detailed understanding of research skills and the value of evidence based practice.
You look at leadership and decision making and how you can be an integral part of a health system accessible to families and communities. You also focus on the need for coordination between all people involved in the health sector (traditional and non traditional).
You undertake an independent project that advances your ability to use critical appraisal as an integral part of decision making.

How you learn
Learning and teaching methods include key note lectures, student led seminars, individual and group based exercises, recommended readings, tutorials and computer lab demonstrations and workshops. You are expected to actively participate in activities set and contribute your ideas to the class through discussion. Individual tutorial support is also available. Learning and teaching is supported by our virtual learning environment to post lecture notes, additional and recommended readings and exercises. You communicate with fellow students on the course through the discussion board.
How you are assessed
You are assessed by written assignments, presentations and a final project.
Career opportunities
This course provides graduates with a degree qualification, necessary in Zambia to enable access to some professional opportunities.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have a diploma in a professionally relevant subject and be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council of Zambia or General Nursing Council of Zambia and have IELTS 6.0 or equivalent and be working in a health-related environment.
