Evidence Appraisal

University Certificate in Continuing Education:

This award develops your understanding of the concept of evidence-based practice as a framework in which to explore different research methodologies. You look at the major features of the research process used within educare and health and social care and have two main areas of focus. The first is to develop your understanding of different research methodologies and provide you with appropriate evaluative tools to assess the quality of research. The second is to develop your skills in areas that help you prepare for your final year independent project.

You study evidence-based practice, research methods and how to critique published health and social care research.

How you learn

A series of key note lectures introduce you to key stages of evidence-based-practice, the research process and research evaluation. Seminars further explore these concepts and apply them to the evaluation of published evidence. Seminar activities include practising the critique of published research and key skills development. You also engage with structured learning materials throughout the award, including Blackboard.
The assessment is a two hour seen examination which carries 100% of the marks for the award.
