You evaluate your personal effectiveness and formulate strategies to improve your personal effectiveness and your ability to work with others. Using a range of leadership diagnostic tools to aid self-assessment you evaluate your strengths and areas for development and examine critically how you can work effectively with others. Award content includes:

  • personal effectiveness

How you learn

The award is delivered using block delivery (four study days a month over four months) and integrates a variety of learning and teaching strategies including seminars and workshops. You are allocated an academic facilitator who works on a one-to-one basis with you to aid the development of a personal action plan. 

Formative assessment: you critically analyse and discuss the importance of being personally effective within your role.

Summative assessment: you submit a 4,000 word reflective essay, which evaluates your knowledge, skills and behaviours within the context of your role and which identifies meaningful strategies to improve your personal effectiveness.

The award aims to enhance practitioners' careers by developing their skills in personal effectiveness, independent thinking and collaborative working within the field of leadership.

Entry requirements

You will normally have studied at diploma level in a health or social care-related subject or in leadership or management. If you have other qualifications and experience you may be considered if you can provide evidence of your ability to study at degree level. In this case you will be invited to discuss your individual needs with the module leader.

You also need to be in a position within your organisation that enables you to contribute to a service improvement initiative.
