This award provides you with the skills and knowledge to perform ultrasound examinations to identify the presence or absence of deep venous thrombus of the lower limb.

The award’s content fully complies with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine’s level two competency.

Teesside University Middlesbrough campus and self-directed study.

How you learn

Teaching on this award takes place over a two-day study block in November, including a mix of keynote lectures, practical workshops and case study discussions. You complete a course of structured, resource based e-learning on e-learning@tees. There is a finishing school in July. The first day of the finishing school consists of individual and small group practical workshops and seminars, where you consolidate all your practical skills and theoretical knowledge. During the second day you perform your final triggered assessment.

The award is summatively assessed in two parts:

  • a written case study
  • a final triggered assessment.

Entry requirements

You must have a PgC in Medical Ultrasound and a clinical placement to engage with this module.
