The award is suitable if you are a health or social care practitioner who has completed cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) training and are BABCP accredited or working towards this. You gain a theoretical understanding of the factors that make up and influence supervisory functioning enabling the provision of CBT supervision, which enhances the clinical practice of others and ultimately, improves psychological therapies for people experiencing mental health difficulties.

You study theories of learning, education and models of supervision and learn how these can be integrated into supervisory practice. Other influencing factors such as the supervisory relationship, culture, and legal and ethical issues are explored. You build a portfolio which involves achieving supervision competencies and reflection on your supervision practice and the context within which you deliver it.

How you learn

The award consists of a series of lectures and seminars.

Assessment is through a 3,000 critical commentary and achievement of supervision competencies which are signed off by a practice supervisor. You are assessed on a peer group supervision session which takes place at the University.

Career opportunities

The award prepares you for delivering high quality CBT supervision to trainee or qualified therapists.
