Further information

The award covers three main areas: leading and managing people in organisations, leading and managing organisational processes and leading and managing organisational structures and processes.

You look at the wider definitions of leadership, including being a leader in one's profession, being a champion for change and leading by doing research and sharing good practice.

You also look at the implications of current social policy initiatives and imperatives and how this influences practice and the management of it. You examine organisational theory and practice, including the leadership and supervision of individuals and teams, decision-making and accountability. A key focus is also on the influence of new technologies and new approaches such as lean management and ways for improving staff efficiency and morale.

How you learn

The award is delivered in three, two-day blocks, spanning six weeks. The principle mode of delivery is workshop-style delivery involving a mixture of taught delivery and seminar-style discussion and small group exercises. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), e-learning@tees, is used for posting PowerPoint presentations and information, and there is innovative use of electronic sources including Twitter and Word Press to stimulate discussion and encourage you to make greater use of online resources.

How you are assessed

Assessment is by a 4,000-word assignment where you explore an aspect of leadership and management within your own organisations. This is submitted in Week 12.
