Further information

The emphasis is on applying existing knowledge to demonstrate the ability to meet the NMC Teacher Standards in your own specialist field. Any deficit will be discussed with the Award Leader and addressed through negotiated learning.

The award commences with a group introductory discussion. However, there are no regular contact sessions as the award relies on you using a self-directed approach to learning with tutorial support.

How you learn

The assessment is designed to enable you to enhance and apply knowledge gained from your qualification in learning and teaching. It has a pass/fail structure and incorporates completion of the NMC mapping tool and any necessary supporting evidence demonstrating how your practice meets the NMC Teacher Standards (2007).

Career opportunities

Enables participants to have their qualification recognised and recorded on the appropriate part of the NMC Professional Register.

You should have already completed the University's Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education or its equivalent qualification in education, have current NMC registration and at least three years practice experience. You must be involved in the education of nurses, midwives and/or specialist community public health nurses undertaking programmes that lead to registration or recording of the qualification on the NMC Professional Register.
