The study of policing and investigation draws upon a range of diverse social scientific discipline areas including criminology and investigation, law, psychology and intelligence analysis areas. Together these areas contribute collectively on a theoretical, empirical and methodological level, providing distinct explanations which add to the discourse and analysis of investigation. This top-up degree for student and serving police officers and law enforcement personnel, allows them to top up to a full honours degree programme which is relevant and attractive to policing.

There are two distinguishing features of the degree. It is delivered via distance learning and it is designed as the designated ‘top up’ for serving or student officers who have successfully completed a foundation degree in policing and who wish to achieve a single honours degree.

How you learn

The degree is delivered via distance learning, which means that all you will need is access to the internet at home. The central mechanism for this programme is the use of e-learning technologies.

How you are assessed

Assessment for this programme is varied and includes an e-learning workbook for study skills and a dissertation, as well as essays, a critical analysis and a legal case study.

Career opportunities

Student officers on this programme will already have careers within the police service. However completion of this degree will illustrate your commitment to professional development and lifelong learning and will be a useful addition to your staff development portfolio.

Entry requirements

You need to have successfully completed a foundation degree in policing, or successful study in an appropriate subject at level 5.
