This online video journalism course is for journalists and press officers who need to develop video production skills and understand how to work effectively producing online video news. It has been successfully delivered to over 80 journalists from both regional and national newspapers.

The course is taught in two blocks of two-day workshops at the University campus. Following the first set of workshops (31 May - 1 June) you are required to produce video content in your own working environment. We support you online and by phone for two weeks. A further two days of workshops take place on 28 -29 June 2012– to enable you to employ your new skills and understanding within your normal working environment and to give you a greater degree of flexibility.

What you study

This course focuses on the development of the technical skills you need as well as current practices in online video journalism and the opportunities it provides. But we also explore the impact of such practices upon traditional journalistic practice.

Where you study

The course takes place in the Media Centre on the University’s main campus.

How you learn and are assessed

Workshops are practically focused, allowing you to continually discuss your work with tutors and your fellow professional delegates. The workshops are intensive but offer very close support from tutors and specialist technicians.

Whilst this course helps you develop the essential skills for online video journalism, you also critically examine how these new skills can be effectively deployed within your professional practice, both for your organisation and your readership.

You are required to produce a portfolio of work accompanied by critical examination of and proposals for the effective employment of online video in your professional practice.
