University Certificate in Advanced Professional Development:

The aim of this certificate is to introduce you to psychological research methods and the five core areas of psychological study which the British Psychological Society requires all undergraduates to understand. These core areas are: social psychology, developmental psychology, biopsychology, cognitive psychology and individual differences.

You study two modules from the first year of the undergraduate degree in psychology.

How you learn

You will learn in lectures, interactive seminars, laboratory classes and in directed independent learning. Extensive use is made of the virtual learning environment to support you throughout your studies.

Career opportunities

The award will enable you to develop an understanding of behaviour and how to conduct basic psychological research. The knowledge and skills you acquire will assist you in pursuing a range of opportunities.

For students who already have a degree in a non-psychology based discipline this UCAPD will enable you to apply to take the Diploma in Psychology (Graduate Conversion) to achieve Graduate Basis for Chartership with the British Psychological Society.

Students without a degree will be able to apply for the undergraduate psychology programmes and use these 60 credits as partial fulfillment of the first year.

Entry requirements

A typical offer will be 88-104 tariff points from two or three A levels or equivalent. You must have GCSE English Language and Mathematics at grade C or equivalent. Access courses are recommended for mature students.
