Languages

Want to get ahead at work? Going on holiday? Want to learn a foreign language for fun? Then we offer a range of affordable part-time year-long language courses for all levels of ability – from beginners to advanced. Classes are practical and develop your skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

We offer short courses in French, German, Spanish and Chinese at various levels.

Part-time students
If you are not currently a full-time student of the University but want to develop or enhance your language skills you have two options available – an accredited course which means you will get a formal qualification if you pass the assessment, or a non-accredited route – you learn the language but do not sit a formal assessment.

If you choose the accredited route you study from October to the end of April then undertake assessment. You benefit from support from Blackboard, the University’s virtual learning environment (VLE) and have Library access. If you successfully complete the programme and pass the assessment, you are awarded a University Certificate in Continuing Education (UCCE). The cost for this programme is £770.

If you choose the non-accredited masterclass route, you still study from October to the end of April but there will be no assessment and you will not have access to Blackboard or Library resources. The fee for the non-accredited masterclass is £560 plus VAT (£20 plus VAT per session). To apply for this programme please email tbsug@tees.ac.uk.

Full-time Teesside University Students
Foreign language skills are an important asset in the jobs market and can enhance your employability.

Language modules can be studied as an option within a degree course or as an additional stand-alone module alongside your main programme of study. If you choose the stand-alone module and you successfully complete the year-long 20 credit module, you are awarded a University Certificate in Continuing Education (UCCE).
