This programme has been designed for students with an interest in concept design, especially within the computer games and computer animation industries. It has been developed by staff with proven skills across games, animation, comics and traditional art.
What you study
It is the job of a concept artist to interpret ideas visually and create visual designs for characters, objects and environments.
The programme will provide you with the opportunity to develop the techniques and methods necessary to approach this subject and create effective and clearly-focused visual solutions.
It emphasises the importance of strong drawing skills as well as the ability to interpret ideas in a creative and innovative way. Visual storytelling will also be explored through storyboarding and sequential art.
This programme offers the opportunity to investigate the extensive field of concept art and develop a range of visual approaches appropriate to this exciting subject.
How you learn
You will be required to produce project-based work outside of class time. This will be supported with seminars which will promote discussion and critique of your work. Formative feedback is strongly emphasised and will be given by both peers and tutors throughout your study.
How you are assessed
Assessment will be by in-course assessment work produced in practical sessions and in your own time. It will take the form of a portfolio of artwork produced digitally or using traditional methods demonstrating a range of visual approaches to a theme.
Career opportunities
Graduates from this course would be suitable for careers as a concept artist working for a range of creative industries, especially in computer games and animation.
