This programme has been designed to enable you to focus intensively on character animation. It has been devised for those interested in becoming successful character animators within the computer animation and computer games industries.
What you study
This programme develops both your knowledge and understanding of digital character animation and extends your intellectual ability for abstract analysis and synthesis at the level appropriate for postgraduate research. It produces graduates with the range and depth of digital character animation skills necessary to become successful character animators within the computer animation and computer games industries. It also produces graduates who can make reasoned, critical decisions for selecting and implementing appropriate solutions in the domain of character animation. You acquire a range of practical, professional and transferable skills appropriate to the area of digital character animation. We encourage enterprise opportunities and/or progression towards further research including MPhil and/or PhD.
How you learn
You are expected and encouraged to engage with the programme outside class time through assignment work, individual research activity and making use of the drawing studio. You are expected to keep a notebook and sketchbook which are used to assist communication and direction between you and the team of tutors.
How you are assessed
The learning outcomes of the programme are assessed by individual coursework. This includes practical implementations and reports which demonstrate critical evaluation of the practical process, techniques and end product, plus supporting evidence of research into specified areas.
You are encouraged and expected to present your work to your peers and tutors within the lab-based sessions to receive both formative and summative feedback on your work.
Detailed marking criteria are given with each assessment. Due to the practical nature of the programme the marks allocated to the practical work would be greater than those allocated to the report.
Career opportunities
You'll be well positioned for specialist fields of computer animation within film, TV or games industries.
