You develop an understanding of the nature and operations of organisations and their environments and develop and apply a range of personal, professional and practical skills relating to effectiveness in the workplace. You are supported to become a critically conscious, confident and independent learner through a blend of academic learning, reflection, critical thinking and work-based activities.

Using a range of self-diagnostic tools to evaluate your personal strengths and areas for development, you develop a strong sense of awareness of your own skills and values and are introduced to a range of alternative debates on individual, group, leader and organisational behaviour. The skills developed will help your ability to perform effectively over time, with an awareness of differing cultural contexts and operating environments.
You develop a systematic understanding of the nature of organisations and how they function and a critical awareness of the current challenges facing contemporary organisations. You are encouraged to critically reflect on the leadership skills and values required to better support organisations through the difficult challenges they may encounter.
You develop work-based solutions to real-world problems through a reflective learning approach. Through discrete, identifiable projects focused on enhancing organisational knowledge and innovation, you develop personal and professional knowledge through a process of reflection, critical thinking and action. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) is used to support learning, providing access to pre- and post- reading and activities, group discussion boards and extension activities. A distinctive feature of this programme is its focus on work-based learning and you have the opportunity to conduct individual or group work-based activities.
The programme adopts a range of assessment methods which support the reflective and work-based nature of the programme. These include a case study analysis and associated reflective evaluation of leadership style, a professional portfolio and career development plan, and a reflective report based on the completion of a number of work-based projects.
