We are an established centre in the UK for postgraduate education in forensic and crime scene science. We have close links with the Home Office Scientific Development Branch, the Metropolitan Police, forensic science providers and the National Police Improvement Agency.

First-class facilities
Our courses are based in the School of Science & Engineering and are supported by a Crime Scene House Laboratory (the most comprehensive university facility of its kind in the UK), a Digital Evidence Laboratory and a Vehicle Examination Laboratory. Further laboratories are equipped with a full range of optical microscopes, chemical analysis equipment and a DNA suite which allows us to produce DNA profiles.
Research
The Centre for Forensic Investigation plays a key role in developing research and education at both national and international levels in crime scene science, forensic science, forensic investigation and disaster management. All our postgraduate students have the opportunity to carry out research projects into current topics affecting the investigative process and supporting the criminal justice system. Staff and students are also actively involved in research, some at the forefront of their specialist fields. Through our Centre for Forensic Investigation we have extensive links and collaborative projects with UK and international forensic science users and providers.
