Quality teaching
Our commitment to provide you with the skills and understanding you need for working ensures you will make good progress and look back on your learning here as life changing. Teesside is an ideal location to study social science. The area has been described as a ‘research laboratory’ as it has experienced rapid and profound social change. Academic staff often draw upon local case studies to enrich teaching and maintain an excellent network of contacts with key policy makers and practitioners.
Research
Recent successes in Education research have included studies of Sure Start, literacy, youth work, mentoring and virtual worlds. Education team members are involved at a national level in developing the government policies for Early Years, Youth Work and Initial Teacher Training requirements. Sociology research is judged to be of national and, increasingly, international standing. Education and Youth Studies staff have published agenda-setting books, reports and journal papers on young people and youth-related issues.
