On completing the course, graduates should be able to:

  • demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental operations of manufacturing systems
  • participate in the development of new systems
  • assess the performance and suitability of new items of hardware and link them together to produce new systems
  • operate with a wide variety of applications of computers in engaging design, analysis, manufacture, testing and management.

What you study

For the award of the MSc you study the taught modules listed below, followed by a 60-credit research project.

How you learn

The course consists of lectures, tutorials and laboratory work.

How you are assessed

Assessment varies from module to module. The assessment methodology could include in-course assignments, presentations or formal examinations.

Professional accreditation

This course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Career opportunities

Graduates can look forward to a range of employment opportunities, including the interfacing of computer peripherals and machines, the combination of such machines to form flexible manufacturing systems and integration with design and manufacturing functions.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally have an honours degree (at least 2.2) in an appropriate related discipline, professional membership of an appropriate chartered institution or an equivalent relevant qualification.
