More information

Industrial, research, commercial, entertainment and domestic equipment increasingly employ integrated sensors with microprocessor-based signal processing, condition monitoring and control implemented in multiple, independent or co-ordinated subsystems. This course is designed to provide you with a thorough knowledge of, and the ability to implement, effective signal processing, conditioning, transmission and storage integrity.

You deal with a range of real design issues with an emphasis on case studies relevant to manufacturing and process industries. Where relevant, parallels are drawn between the needs of traditional industry and the exploitation of new and expanding markets.

What you study

For the award of the MSc you study the following taught modules, followed by a 60-credit research project.

How you learn

The course consists of lectures, tutorials and laboratory work.

How you are assessed

Assessment varies from module to module. The assessment methodology could in-course assignments, presentations or formal examinations.

Career opportunities

Graduates can expect to be employed in areas within petrochemicals, chemical engineering, manufacturing, research, transport and infrastructure, entertainment and domestic products.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally have an honours degree (at least 2.2) in an appropriate related discipline, professional membership of an appropriate chartered institution or an equivalent relevant qualification. Suitable subjects would include instrumentation and control, electrical engineering and electronic engineering.
