Applied behaviour analysis is based on the premise that behaviour can be influenced by changes in environment and by reinforcing the consequences of that behaviour. This course is for practitioners working in diverse settings within the context of applied behaviour analysis. It allows you to develop advanced knowledge, understanding and skills in the field of applied behaviour analysis.
The course:
- facilitates the acquisition of substantial knowledge and skills appropriate to postgraduate study and the integration of the knowledge and skills related to applied behavioural analysis in order to promote optimum personalised practice
- enables you to develop the skills and attitudes necessary to perform detailed evidence-based practice and research in the area of applied behaviour analysis
- enables you to develop an understanding of the necessary research methodologies to locate and appraise critically research relevant to applied behavioural analysis
- fosters within you a commitment to lifelong learning and an inquisitive approach to your practice.
What you study
You study the knowledge base related to applied behavioural analysis and the research methodologies from which the knowledge base is derived, positive behavioural interventions and support, evidence-based strategies to improve services for people whose behaviour challenges, and planning, implementing and leading change based on sound research evidence.
How you learn
You learn through a combination of lectures, workshops and group seminars which utilise problem-solving skills. Experiential methods such as service user involvement, case studies, scenarios, critical incident analyses and actual examples from your own practice are used with a problem-based learning approach which emphasises holistic and person-centred health and social care and multi-agency working.
All modules allow you to develop your own knowledge within your specialist area. Throughout each module you focus your assessment around an area of your own specialist practice.
How you are assessed
Each module has individual assessment strategies, including student presentation, case studies, written reflection based on practice, essays, reports, research proposal and dissertation.

Entry requirements
You should have an honours degree at 2.2 and above. However, applicants with non-standard entry requirements are considered on an individual basis.
