Global health care is changing rapidly alongside social and economic development. This course has been designed specifically for physiotherapists wishing to explore cross-cultural and diverse health care provision to develop a broader knowledge and understanding of the global context of physiotherapy practice. Physiotherapy is a major pillar of health care and in particular rehabilitation. The WHO and the WCPT are driving initiatives to develop community-based rehabilitation programmes as well as developing advanced acute service delivery.
This course is for qualified physiotherapists and combines intellectual rigour with the consolidation of clinical skills. It provides physiotherapists with the knowledge and abilities to work autonomously in diverse areas of practice and meet the demands of changing roles.
How you learn
Learning material is delivered in a variety of ways including interactive lectures, practical skills workshops, small-group seminars using a problem-based learning approach and individual tutorials. You also work with the virtual learning environment through Blackboard.
How you are assessed
Assessment varies across the modules incorporating practical, written and oral presentations.
Professional accreditation
This course does not provide eligibility for registration with the Health Professionals Council to practise as a physiotherapist in the UK, but it does provide the skills and attributes to develop a career pathway in the management, design and delivery of physiotherapy services in a global context.
Career opportunities
Successful completion of this course will give you the skills and attributes to meet the changing demands of global health care and enhance your ability to progress within your profession. It will enable you to improve current practice, seek promotion and/or develop a wider role in relation to leadership or policy positions.
Entry requirements
You will need to be qualified as a physiotherapist (normally for at least six months) with a licence to practise in your home country. In addition, international students will need IELTS level 6.0.
