This Certificate is within the framework of the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice
(Neurological Rehabilitation) which is designed to provide a structured professional development pathway for postgraduate physiotherapists and occupational therapists with a specialist interest and experience in the field of neurological rehabilitation. This course aims to combine the advancement of clinical skills in neurological rehabilitation with master's-level cognitive skills, and to prepare you for the demands of changing professional roles within neurological rehabilitation. Key features of the course are inter-professional collaboration, user involvement and flexible study.

What you study

This course is made up of three specialist modules which explore diverse clinical and practice issues in neurological rehabilitation.

How you learn

A variety of teaching methods will be used including lectures, seminars, debates, small group work, tutorials and practical skills-based work. Learning and teaching strategies will facilitate you to relate theory to practice issues critically, and to develop as a self-directed, independent learner. Each module will involve you attending two teaching blocks (two days each) which are separated by a period of self-directed study.
Learning resources include work books, group work, the virtual learning environment and facilitation from the module team. External lecturers from specialist areas within the field of rehabilitation will contribute to delivery of the modules.

At the beginning of the course you will be assigned a personal tutor who will provide support through tutorial meetings face to face during taught study blocks and via email.

How you are assessed

Formative assessment will be used to assess your knowledge and understanding, and clinical competencies during workshops, seminars and presentations. This will involve self, peer and tutor assessment and feedback. Summative assessment for academic credits will be through written assignments.

Entry requirements

Applicants will normally be postgraduate physiotherapists and occupational therapists with a minimum of a 2.2 degree and who are registered with the Health Professionals Council. You also need experience in practice and must be currently working in the field of neurological rehabilitation.

Applicants with other qualifications and experience may be considered if they can provide evidence of their ability to study at master’s level, and their previous qualifications are considered commensurate with the full CAMS level III criteria.
