Modern business organisations operate in a changing national and international environment. Business decision-makers, therefore, need a good knowledge of economics, as well as the political, legal and social implications of the changing business environment. At the national level, government policies and the legal system provide the framework of rules within which a country’s economy operates, but the business environment is also affected by developments in the global economy. In this context, business success requires efficient economic performance and competitive strategies. It is also important for business leaders to take account of the political, social and ethical implications of their decisions. The module explores these issues using a number of topical business scenarios.
