This module discusses rape and sexual violence, starting with the current legal situation and asking whether the reforms of the early 21st century have worked. You will consider explanations of rape - learning theory, biological theories and radical feminist theories. You will also look at surveys, the issue of consent and the idea of communicative sexuality, problems of a reduced capacity to consent because of learning difficulties, age, drink or drugs. Subsequent lectures consider male rape, sexual harassment, ideas about reducing rape through education, programmes for the victims and survivors and programmes for offenders.
