The impact of modern molecular methods of taxonomy in the form of phylogenetics will be highlighted, with particular attention being paid to the discovery of the domain of archaea. The complex biodiversity of the microbial, plant and animal worlds will be discussed and their importance in ecological balance for the earth, human kind and society in the form of conservation.
