This module introduces contemporary themes that are central to the applied medical molecular biology of infectious and non-infectious diseases. You learn how molecular techniques have enhanced the understanding of microbial pathogenesis and evolution at a molecular and cellular level through the illustration of a number of key bacterial species and viruses. Similarly, you explore the pathology of a number of genetic diseases, such as cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders at the molecular level.

The underlying power and potential of this cutting edge discipline, towards both clinical treatment with diagnosis, as well as the use of recombinant systems in therapeutic approaches and pharmaceutical production is emphasised throughout
