In this module we build on the second year module Electrical Engineering 2. We present methods of power system analysis in sufficient depth to give a sound understanding of a broad range of topics related to power system engineering.

You examine transmission lines – two-port network representation of p/T equivalent circuits. You analyse voltage, current, power, power factor and efficiency.

We look at power flows - the power flow problem, matrix solution of power flow problem, control of power flow, faults – symmetrical faults and three phase short circuits. Plus power system control – generator voltage control, turbine governor control, load-frequency control and economic despatch.

In lectures we explain principles and discuss applications and solution of relevant examples. Then in practicals you use of software packages (Pspice & Matlab) to analyse power systems.

For assignments you report on your laboratory activity.
