Art

Fine art programmes at Teesside offer a radically different approach to university study with amazing equipment and access to staff with international reputations. Each student is treated as an individual and part of a community of artists. You'll have exceptional access to tutors, facilities and visiting artists from around the globe.

  • »The course is collaborative, forward-looking in nature and interdisciplinary in approach. In this sense we ask you to take an active role in your learning and in developing the course to fit your ideas. We encourage awareness of the changing landscapes of contemporary art - emphasising experimentation, engagement with ideas, developing new skills, curiosity and developing your unique interests with you at the foundation.
  • »Students rank us as excellent for our knowledgeable and approachable lecturers - staff are artists working internationally but always have time for students (National Student Survey 2016).
  • »Teesside provides a distinctive landscape amid disused steelworks, coastal scenes and moors, the legacy of manufacturing and industrial landscapes, whilst delivering a decidedly unique haven for art making where you can develop and expand your ideas. We're a short distance from Whitby, York, Leeds and Newcastle.
  • »100% fine art students are satisfied with their course (National Student Survey 2016).
  • »Teesside fine art launched one of the first practicum programme of its kind in the UK where students conceive and develop practical hands-on skills that make things happen through real-world applications.
  • »We are one of the only fine art courses in the UK with our own contemporary art museum, mima.
  • »You develop robust lifelong art practices which might include sculpture, painting, video and digital new media, printmaking, new genres, installation, sound, artist-initiated projects, or photography whilst following your own interests through our hands-on mentoring - anything is possible.
  • »Coupled with our Critical Perspectives visiting artist and curator series, you receive individual mentoring, tutorials, lectures and workshops from leading professionals from around the world every week.
  • »Reflecting a changing focus in how British and international art education is taught, Teesside fine art is a place where something different is happening and you can be a part of it.
