The School of Arts & Media is a diverse and enterprising group, spanning practice-led subjects like Art and Design and TV production as well as English Studies, History and Media Studies.

£10m has been invested in the Athena Building – a fantastic purpose-built undergraduate teaching facility which provides nearly 4,000 square metres of studio space for teaching and learning in digital design for our students.
For the School of Arts & Media there are design studios, an experimental workshop, a newsroom, broadcast news studios and multimedia publishing studios.
In the Cook building there are two large customised design studios and an IT suite for computer-aided design. Workshops for wood, metal, plaster, resin and glass are on the lower floors. And there’s a convergent newsroom for professional training courses for journalists.
Students learn traditional journalistic skills alongside audio and video editing using an editorial system networked to the local newspaper.
Product designers generate concepts and produce 3-D design proposals for manufacture that reflect current and future trends in the way we live.
Interior and Spatial Design produces designers who are able to make different environments exciting and usable.
The School has two national teaching fellows and an excellent research rating in History. Our students have won national and international competitions.
Teesside’s got talent – performing arts students showcase their talents creatively at an end-of-year show at a public venue.

Our established Media Centre houses a large television studio, radio broadcast facilities, six air-conditioned TV edit suites and a separate post-production teaching facility as well as professional-standard location equipment.
