'Teesside University has great facilities on campus and the staff really make themselves available so I felt supported all the way.'

What made you decide to study at Teesside?

I studied my undergraduate course here and graduated with a first-class honours degree, so I had a positive experience. I wanted to specialise in user experience design (UX) and this course let me explore this. UX is big in the world of digital and a lot of companies want people to have experience in it.

What is the best thing about your course?

There was a lot of hands-on practical experience – I learned skills that are directly applicable in industry and I could tailor my course to the areas I wanted to specialise in. My favourite modules were Inclusive Design and UX Modelling. Both explored real-world examples and allowed practical learning with industry guest speakers.

What do you think about the campus and the services?

The library is a fantastic facility. Throughout my course I have seen it evolve into how it is today. There are a good variety of books which are kept up to date, and plenty of space to work. And I was awarded a Postgraduate Experience Project scholarship which took the stress away from financial considerations and allowed me to concentrate on my degree.

What has your social life been like?

There have been some great events in campus heart which have showcased local businesses in Middlesbrough, such as food stalls and markets.

Would you recommend Teesside and your course?

Yes – Teesside University has great facilities on campus and the staff really make themselves available so I felt supported all the way. It is a local university with a global presence. With events such as Animex and Expotees showcasing our local talent, it’s a great place to discover new opportunities. I didn’t hesitate in choosing Teesside and I knew I would get great support from the tutors here. I am very proud of being awarded a master’s degree with distinction.

I already have a career in the IT industry but this course has improved my knowledge in UX and helped me become a specialist in this area. As a software developer at AXA Insurance in Middlesbrough, I was able to study a part-time master’s course close to my work.

My job is varied – I get to fix bugs and build tools to improve the system. This degree adds to my existing skillset and enables me to better consider the end user when analysing problems and coming up with different designs.
