Why Teesside University?

I had offers from other universities but I was swayed by the fact Teesside had recently won University of the Year. I was also really impressed when one of the lecturers gave me a ring – it set the tone for the strong personal investment the University makes in each student.

Best thing about your course?

The lectures and seminars were very engaging, and I found it fascinating to think about film and TV in a new way.

What did you learn?

I developed skills in critical thinking and analysis, and learnt how to identify what really makes strong entertaining content. I also learnt the basics of script writing, filming and editing.

What did you enjoy most?

The staff are incredible. They are hugely talented and inspirational but most importantly they care. If you are concerned, have a problem or need a bit of guidance, they are available to talk and happy to help.

How has your time at Teesside prepared you for life after university?

I was set up with the academic skills to progress onto, and excel, on an MA at Goldsmiths University in London. More importantly I gained detailed knowledge of the industry from the University’s links with business.

What are you doing now?

When I left university I worked for the ITV-owned production company, TwoFour. I sold programmes and formats to the Middle East, Central and Eastern Europe, Turkey, Israel and Greece, as well as for inflight entertainment providers.

What advice would you give to someone considering Teesside University?

Do it! They will give you the time, attention and skills to achieve your goals. I promise you will get back far more than what you put in, as long as you listen and engage.
