'I want to keep working with animation - to be creative and create.'
After a three-year art and design course in Norway, I studied 3D and animation for two years at the Noroff Institute there following by a third year and a master’s at Teesside University.
While studying at Teesside, I won a six-month internship through its ExpoTees awards as an animator at Ubisoft Reflections – best known for creating the award-winning Driver games. After the internship I was offered a permanent job and have been working there ever since.
My master’s gave me the crucial skills for my job at Ubisoft Reflections. Through lectures, group work, assignments and feedback from tutors and peers as well as a lot of hard work, I developed skills and a good base to start working in the industry.
I’ve been interested in animation since I was a kid – I’ve always loved creating things. I studied 3D animation in Norway. The institute offer a full degree but I had the option of an exchange at either Teesside University or a university in Australia. I chose Teesside because in Australia I would rather be surfing and sunbathing than studying.
I enjoyed my course and the lively, vibrant atmosphere on campus. In fact I recommend the University and the course. The tutors are knowledgeable and always ready to help. The University has great equipment and facilities for students to use. I liked the combination of a big urban university with a small town feeling – close to the coast in an area that’s easy to get around.
My advice to students... There are many temptations in a student life that can stop you from learning as much as you potentially could. Be strict and self-disciplined and you will achieve a lot.
