Vis Awards categories

Deadline for entries 16 April 2010 | Enter the Vis awards now


The Vis Awards are split into several categories designed to recognise and reward animation, games, digital music and software development techniques.

They cover a varied skills base to offer as many students as possible the chance to show what they can do.

The categories for 2010 are:

Computer games design award - for the best playable game prototype using the appropriate development software and accompanied with a design pitch using presentation software to demonstrate complete game vision using no more than 20 slides.

  • Prize - an internship in computer games design

Modelling award - for the best use of 3D software to create as realistically as possible either a self portrait, your house exterior, car or your bedroom interior.

  • Prize - an internship in modelling

Character animation award - for the best character animation sequence realised with 2D or 3D software. The sequence should be no longer than 40 seconds in length.

  • Prize - an internship in character animation

Games programming award - for the best example of the art of programming for the creation and control of a real-time games sequence or demo.

  • Prize - an internship in games programming

Visual effects (VFX) award - for the best and most innovative use of 2D or 3D media combined with live action for the creation of a pre-rendered sequence.

  • third prize - 12 months access to Advanced Lighting

Digital music award – for the best and most innovative use of technology and techniques for the creation and digital production of a music composition

  • first prize - Loft Music to provide an internship for the period of two weeks in their Newcastle offices
