Claire is a principal lecturer and the subject group leader for occupational therapy.
She joined the Teesside team in 1994, with the first intake of occupational therapy students. Her original career path took her to study biochemistry but on graduating she went to the Derby School of Occupational Therapy, qualifying in 1985 from the accelerated diploma programme.
She then went on to work in a number of clinical areas including mental health, learning disabilities, older persons’ services and more predominantly in community social services. Her master's was in rehabilitation management. She teaches activity analysis, environmental design, reflective practice and professional development. She was a Council Member for the College of Occupational Therapists and undertakes approval work for the Health and Care Professions Council.
