Alan's career began in 1972 as an enrolled nurse. He became a Registered General Nurse in 1978. His specialism was in general surgical, A&E and orthopaedic nursing before moving into hospital management in 1988.

Alan gained a Diploma in Management in 1992 at Teesside University, and went on to study for a master’s in business management. He moved into education in 1994 to work for the combined Schools of Nursing in Durham as a student placements officer before taking up his current role at Teesside as School Manager in 1997.

He is responsible for the management of the School budget, support staff including administrative and technical support and space rationalisation. He is also the staff development co-ordinator, the health and safety representative and CRB countersignatory.

Alan is committed to ensuring that staff and students have a conducive and safe working/learning environment and supporting his colleagues in their roles in whatever way he can.
