What brought you to study at Teesside University?

I attended an open day after searching the internet for universities. It was close enough to my family home in Newcastle that I could return and visit my family, but far enough away so that I could live independently.

What was the course like?

The laboratory sessions were very interesting and gave me a chance to develop my lab skills, a must have in a chemist.

The course gave me experience of delivering presentations to a scientific audience, and the problem-solving skills that are essential to my current role.

I joined the Men’s Hockey club. I had never played before but I enjoyed it, and I would recommend joining a society or club to every student.

What are you doing now?

I am working as a Graduate Chemist at SSI UK Ltd. I work in the technical team in the steel making side of the plant. My main duties include solving recurring problems that occur during the casting of steel, producing reports, and trying to improve the overall process.
