'The facilities here are second-to-none.'

What brought you to study at Teesside University?

I liked the approach this university takes to my course. And the facilities here are second-to-none.

What’s your course like?

Civil engineering is a combination of many scientific specialisms, including mechanics, hydraulics, geotechnics, materials science and statistical analysis. I’ve learned how to apply mathematics and scientific knowledge to real-life situations and problems that arise from creating and maintaining structures, taking into account environmental, financial, legal and ethical considerations. The best thing about this course is my lecturers – they are all fantastic. Very helpful, very intelligent and they’re good, fun, nice people too.

Have you done a work experience or industry placement?

I completed a summer placement which was an amazing experience. I learned a lot, but most importantly about team work.

Have you joined any clubs, societies or volunteering programmes?

I am a member of the taekwondo club, and I’m also volunteering in a number of programmes such as the English café.

Have you had any help from any of the University’s support services?

Yes, I have had a lot of support from student services – the careers service helped me with my CV and job interviews.

Has your time at Teesside University helped you to achieve or get closer to your goals?

Teesside University has taught me a lot of things. I improved my employability skills and subject knowledge which is helping me get closer to my goals. I’ve had the best time of my life in Teesside.
